Looking for original EMG P embossed pickup 70s

I’m on the quest to find 1 of the original EMG large font embossed logo P pickups in excellent working condition. If you have one on an old bass or in a drawer somewhere I’d like to buy it for a project. I’m not a collector but a pro player and I’m wanting this pickup for a project bass. If you have one or can locate one I’d love to buy it asap. Looks like this pic….

I was under the impression they only ended up in basses of people Rob Turner knew directly.

If you can't find an early EMG, have you considered a Bart "High A" pickup? Same thing in passive.

Why anyone would want one is a mystery?

The issues were worked out for the ones with the sorta flesh-tone epoxy back with the wiring connecting the two coils. Those first EMG pickups had issues with battery power draining really fast and I'm sure other refinements.

At least that's what Rob told me once...

Did you ever find one? This was the first upgrade I ever did to my bass. Probably 1979. Long gone though when I traded in the bass. Not a lot of people remember them.

Probably a long shot, but have you tried contacting EMG? Maybe they have one around the shop. Perhaps if you bought one of their P pickups, they could customize a cover for you, provided they still have the graphics. Myself, I'd just call them. EMG (707) 525-9941.

I have contacted EMG and they were very little help. They even said the set that I have now from the 70s wouldn’t work…..but they were wrong….here they are working perfectly. I’d still like to find another set tho…

I'm not sure why they would say those "wouldn't work"... There's nothing unusual about the way they work.
Maybe they thought you were trying to use them passively? It's also possible whoever you got on the phone wasn't born when those 70s versions came out and doesn't really know anything about them...;-)
