Looking for some Advice,,

I have been playing for years,,Took a break from playin in bands for like 10years, during this time I sold all of my big gig stuff an got a swr combo,,,I love this amp,,,

I now play with a band again an I need a little more power to get the sound I like with the drummer,,,,

I just got a new GK700rb an a new hartke 15" 115 hydrive cabnet

I find myself trying to get a good sound,,do I need a 4 10" cabnet to go with the 15?

any help would be great,,,,my sound gos from jaco to flee,,, but I find myself around entwhistle alot,,,,

I would not be apposed to getting a whole new cabnet if I need it, or just add to what I have,,,,,,

Is your 15 inch cab 8 ohms? If so, one option would be adding an 8 ohm Avatar Neo 210 or 410. You could use the Avatar alone or in combo with the 15. New or used they're one helluva value. I currently own two of the 410's and one 210. I use them with a GK 1001RB and an Ampeg SVT1000.

yea maybe you are right,,,The other night we played at a small club an I spend lots of time messin with my sound,,,,

when I went to bassy it got muddy,,,backed off the bass I had a hard time feelin it,,,,,

I love to feel it when I play, some times I stand right in front of the amp,,,,but I need clarity in the notes because a lots of them

No, I don't think you "need" a 4x10 cab, but you may like the tone of a 4x10 cab better than your Hydrive 115. Or maybe not. It can be a tough thing to sort out what gives you the sound you want, or how to get it. Sometimes you don't know whether it's the bass, or the eq on the amp, or a cab or the amp itself, or a combination of all of these items as a dynamic and interactive system of sound. We can help on some of this, and to a degree, but the one and most important aspect we can't tell you about, is what sounds good to your ears. That trumps everything else. Though surely some of us will try to do that too. ;)

Jimmy's right.

Start by raising the cabinet higher or tilting it back so you can hear it better.

You have good gear and should not be having a problem. (Usually means operator error!) ;)

It could be that you are asking for too much. In order to get all those different tones, you would need to adjust your amp every time you wanted to change tones. This would be easier if you had a multi channel amp or a modeling fx unit like the Invalid Link Removed (3 channels) or the Line 6 Floor POD (64 Patches).

buy another 15, the same one. mixing speakers that reproduce the same frequencies causes the sound not to be as clear. especially if they are ported cabs. the speaker cones do not weigh the same, so they are microscopically faster and slower than each other. this causes blurring of the sound. with ported cabs, the sound from the port is in reverse phase to the speaker. combine 2 different ported and you get nulls and peaks from the phase overlaps. as the other guy said point one up at you, and leave the bottom one facing the audience. johnny a.
