Looking for this bass

Ok here is my predicament... lol

While wandering my local music store I happen to find a Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass V. nice flat black... really nice looking... so I picked it up and instanly fell in love with it. The neck was the PERFECT WIDTH!!!! I have a 5 string... an OLP stingray copy...that is fantastic but the strings are close and sometimes makes it a bit difficult playing fast. The bad thing is the Fender is $800......:crying: above my price range... so I looked at the specs for and and I am now trying to find a 5 string that has the same width at nut of 47mm...

Anyone have any ideas on were to look for this?? Or basses that might not be as expensive??

Sorry if I sound cheap... but I need to keep my price down. I am looking about $500 range :)

Thanks

Always check used.. This site has the BEST used bass listing! I am constantly amazed at the ammount of basses that are for sale here at reasonable prices.

You can also check www.daddys.com. I see the Deluxe Jazz V's come through every once in a while, and it looks like they are priced between $400-$500 depending on condition. We will ship anywhere in the US (and if it comes from the Warwick store where I work, I usually give the basses some extra love).

Apart from the string spacings/nut width and cheaper 5 string basses, what other things do you like on a bass?

Well I like the sound of the Music Man Stingrays. I have an OLP Tony Levin model that I like but the string spacing is a little tight.. then I found this one and like I said it was perfect. But I am going off on a tangent. I like the satin finish on necks... if that makes sense. some of the gloss finishes are impossible to slide my hand down. Other then that I am pretty much open. I like a middy type sound.. don't like the "woosh" bass as I call it.

My influences are Tony Levin, Billy Sheehan, John Paul Jones, Jack Bruce- love the bass in Sunshine Of Your Love, and others I can't think of off hand
:hyper:

add in John Moyer and John Meyung

you might be able to find the same exact bass in passive for cheaper. especially if youre looking into used gear.
You can find a used (in exc. cond.) passive American Standard Jazz V for $800 or less. Saw one go on eBay for $611 about a week ago. Then, to go active and add tone shaping capabilities get a Tech 21 Bass Driver DI later as funds allow.
