Double Bass Looking for today's GK MB150

I play through MB combos which are house amps at two local clubs. An FDeck HPF is very helpful with those. The high input impedance tames the piezo quack and cutting the low end junk really tightens up the tone. Still, the GK MB150 will be diff it to replace.

I own both an MB112ii and now an MB110. I would absolutely use a HPF with the 12, but I don't think it's needed with the 10, at least to my ears. In any case, the amount of lows needed to be shaved off would be greatly reduced on the 10.

Having played several gigs with the Traynor SB 106 it's now my go to amp for small stages, bad load ins, and trio gigs. This is an amazing amp. Having had a GK 200MB (series I), a GK 200MB (series 2) a GK RCB 200 Head, and a MBE
the Traynor is equally as loud if not a bit louder and the EQ will get me exactly what I want from my Double Bass and Pickup.

If your playing Double Bass smaller is better when it comes to amplifiers. I think the Traynor SB 106 is a good extension to the line of the GK 200MB, Acoustic Image, Roland Cube 60B. and Ampeg SB12.

I have one and it easily handles piano trio with drums.

@Ric Vice I'm really happy to hear your endorsement. I had an older Traynor DB50 that was really awful... more of a practice amp. The tolex was peeling off right away and it barely had any volume before distortion. Great to hear that this amp is a whole different story!
@Earl , you have a 200mb, too, right? Would you also say the Traynor is comparable in terms of volume and tonal profile?

We’ll you should definitely check one out for yourself first, to see if it works for you. I really like the amp with my Mirecourt DB, Ehrlund EAP and Headway EDB-2 H.E.

No, the above statement is patently false. Admittedly, for some, yes it makes sense, but for others, like me, more watts and more speaker area is the preferred way to amplify because "smaller" failed in real world applications.

Traynor has an interesting history in regards to bass amps. Old stuff was great. From the 80's up to now there were some real gems for their time, and an equal amount of total dog doo-doo. The combos they are putting out now simply can't be beat bang-for-buck. Their standalone cab offerings are unfortunately about 15 years behind... Why they make a neo 15 but boat anchors for every other configuration boggles my mind.

Comparable yes, but two different size speakers do sound different. The GK is a bit warmer. Volume seems similar. Overall I still prefer the GK but I find myself using the Traynor more often.

And then there’s the fact that once the GK 200MB has issues repairing it can potentially get expensive.
