Double Bass Looking to buy my first EUB

I am new to the whole EUB thing, but I love their look and sound. The only real problem I have is i don't know much about their makers or what makes a good EUB different from a lesser EUB. I mostly pla metal, especially on the heavier side of things. This isn't really a "best bass for metal' thread, more so a "who makes a good EUB for a decent price" thread. So any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I do not yet have a budget set but i have seen some go for a pretty penny, So, maybe a few in some different price ranges would be nice to know?

I'd be interested in people's takes on this as well. I don't play metal, in fact I play DB as well as BG, but there are some gigs for which an EUB would be nice.

I've been using the BSX Allegro Acoustic for almost 8 years. I've used it for small jazz combos, big bands, and, lately, for pit orchestras as well. It has a great sound, pizzicato and arco. Mine was around $2700 with Mr. Fiumara's display stand.

I've also owned a Clevinger Bassic since 2001. It has a very good pizzicato sound, but its arco sound is a bit harsh for my tastes. However, it has almost no feedback issues, so it's a good instrument in situations where the volume level is maybe a little loud. (I've used it on wedding band gigs where the music ranged from Glenn Miller to Motown.) It's more expensive than the BSX but has been a highly useful instrument and a great value for me.

For what it's worth, I run both of these basses through the G-K 12" combo amp.

There are other much less expensive (Chinese-made, perhaps?) instruments available. I've seen ads putting these instruments in the $500-700 range, but I suspect that you get what you pay for.

I'm a huge fan of NS Design's instruments. I had an Electric Bass Cello, now called the Omni Bass (electric bass scale). Tony Levin uses a full-size NS EUB.

They're not cheap, but their sound is fantastic to my ears. I don't think one would confuse its tone with that of a real upright, but it might work very well for your purposes.

And there is a brand new "NXT" version of the OmniBass available; it's the less expensive version of the bass that Marial has - without the magnetic pickups and onboard preamp, but still a pro-level instrument (at less than half the price).

Comparison of quality? Think of the difference between a MIM Fender Standard P-Bass and a US Deluxe one; the NXT and CR models are actually made in the same Czech Republic factory, too.
