Loop Pedal

The single RC-2 is quite simple, and very effective. I use the RC-20XL, and it's also simple to use, but has many more features. Some digital delay pedals have a very simple, and usually very short looper, like the Ehx Stereo Memoryman w/ Hazrai, and the bonus there is it's a very nice digital delay as well.

You could get a delay/looper (Boss DD-7 and TC Electronic Flashback among others) but the price difference would be maybe $50 max. Personally, I prefer a dedicated looper because it gives you many more options. You can pick up a refurbished RC-3 for around $150 on eBay and they're suuuuper easy to use.

I just want to be able to dub over a loop and delete a dub while playing withiut affecting the whole loop.

That will only work with the last overdub. Meaning if you create a loop with three layers, you'll only be able to take off the third layer; you won't be able to get back to just the original layer.

Isn't that only possible with the RC-50/300? Maybe the Jamman Stereo.

It's possible with any multitrack looper if you use each track as a separate layer.

Hmm... I can deal with just deleting the last overdub. Do you guys know what format are the sound files saved as in the Jamman Solo? Also, is the quality good enough for me to use it to record a whole bass track?

It's not going to be the highest quality stuff in the world, but it'll sound fine. Some of my early looping stuff was done on an RC-20XL and it sounds fine, and I believe Kaki King and several other artists have done pro recordings with the RC-50, which likely has the same sample rate.

I believe, as far as layering goes, you can continuously remove the last layer until you get back to the original. Its been a while since I used my RC-2, but I think I remember it being able to do that. In fact, I think thats what I used to use it for.

Hmm... I think I'm getting either the Jamman Solo or the Boss RC-2, whichever pops up cheaper on eBay in the next few days.

Dude I've seen your videos on YouTube before! Amazing stuff.

You think WRONG!!!! :D

You can only undo the last overdub. Attempting to undo another layer will initiate Redo, which brings your undone layer back.

Thanks :) The RC-20XL got me started into songwriting- loopers are fantastic multipurpose tools. If you end up liking the RC-2 or Jamman, you may want to invest in one of the multitrack loopers out there. They allow you to create multiple song parts and change between them, which can really open up your playing/songwriting.
