Has anyone here used/currently use Lopo Line cabinets?

I've been looking into replacing my 15" bass cab. Right now I have an Eminence Kappa Speaker in a crappy custom box that I installed myself back when I was on a budget.

I did a search on TB and nothing came up about anyone's particular experiences with the 15" cabinet. Anyways, if you haven't checked out their site, it's pretty cool, they can do just about any color tolex you want, not to mention a choice of different grill cloths and corner pieces for under $200 shipped.
I'm thinking about buying one and throwing my Eminence 15" in there.
You guys think the different casing could result in a better sound as well???

BTW, according to Orange, their new 15" bass cabs come with the same speaker I already have, so I'd save about $300 for a cooler, more unique cab than Orange...:p

Usually a lot smaller than they should be. The Eminence Kappalite 3015 is pretty much the current standard for fifteen inch drivers, it works best in a net 3 cubic foot box. Figuring for the volume taken by the driver, ducts and thickness of the cab walls a gross figure of 4 cu ft is about right.

The internal size of the cabinet and how it is ported will affect how low the notes are that the speaker is able to reproduce. Below the tuned frequency the volume will fall off rapidly. However if the cabinet size is "close" to correct for the installed driver it won't affect the overall volume (SPL) or tone a lot. A smaller cabinet may "sound" louder because the resonant frequency is higher and your ears hear midrange better than bass, where a large cabinet may be boomy to some. This is like selecting pickups, strings, amps or any other object where tone is a deciding factor and is completely subjective - i.e. you may like the sound. I suggest trying it to see what you get if you have the means. :)

I have one that I bought with the idea of pairing with an avatar sb112 8 ohm or a ampeg 4x8 8 ohm to make a 4 ohm total load mini stack. I went in a different direction and never gigged with either combination. They are a nice looking cab, no tweeter, well made and very light. they are small and have rear ports. It sounds good, but does not have the super deep lows you might want from a 1x15. What is your intended application? If you wanted a small, light cab for a lower volume folk, jazz, blues gig, it would be fine. Hard rock or anything loud--keep looking.

I have one loaded with a Eminence Kappalite and it rocks. Not a low end monster but it does very well for a cab so small. It can keep up with a loud drummer in a small club. I did change the ports to tune it a bit lower.

Yes, the carpeted one is about the right size for a 15. I have been thinking about ordering a custom one, of the cabs you have first looked at, but with the front baffle cut for a 12" driver. The cab is about right for a 12, but maybe even a little small for a 12 even. I don't think anybody at the company is into bass playing at all. they just don't seem to get it. Even if you look at what they say they are putting in them for ports too. I would also order mine, without ports, and do it myself.

My ideal application is to get some pretty boomin lows...I play with a loud rock band and need that low end stuff to keep up with the lows from our keyboardist's synths. He uses one of those Roland 15 combos and I swear that thing has lower lows than I've ever heard! Of course...it IS a synthesizer. I may want to keep up the search then...thanks for the input everyone!

I put an eight-ohm Eminence Definimax 15" driver in the little Lopo bass cabinet. It can handle some power and I think is an excellent cabinet for its size/portability. This one is driven with an Eden WT550 plus Tech 21 VT Bass DI preamp all to amplify a base vile with piezo bridge pickup.
