Lost sound altogether

Hi there

Have just re-wired an old bass which then played fine but had a terrible buzz. I then stripped it back down and shielded it all and now I cannot get a sound out of it. Have taken it apart several times and re-checked the wiring, even stripped the solder and re-soldered but still no go. Any suggestions.

FWIW:

see FAQ Dimento's Trouble Shooting Guide and the Bass Mod link within the first paragraph.

Put down strips of electrical tape below each set of pot lugs and against the bay wall between it and any potential hot pot lug contacts. The thing shielding does best is short hotleads.

Also check to make sure you don't have any hot leads soldered into the pot lugs that extend through the hole to make contact with the pot body or bay floor shielding (since it probably would puncture the electrical tape when the pots tightened down).
