Loud "crack" noises from monitors (Rokit KRK 8')

Occasionally, maybe once every couple of days at any time in the day or night, either one of my 2 monitors will make a really loud cracking noise. It doesn't seem to damage them or affect anything in the system in any way, other than the noise. Even when there is absolutely no power going to them (as in the power board they are plugged into is not even plugged into the wall socket) they still do it. Any idea what this could be?
My only guess is that it's something moving and slipping as temperatures or humidity changes.
 
I guess the humidity is getting pretty high pretty fast going into summer. "Static charge build up release", that's actually exactly what it sounds like so you may be right!

EDIT:
It's REALLY loud though, sounds like it would be quite painful if it were to shock you if it is a static charge
