Louder Harmonics?

Everything that you need to know has already been touched on but I will say that in my experience harmonics ring out the best with single coil pickups. Maybe it's just me but I find it easier to play hamonics on Jazz basses and Ric's. But they are playable on any bass and I've just found that on any given bass you really just have to find it's sweet spot where they just sing. And yes, mids are a wonderful thing for us bass players.

The best bass I've found so far for easy, clear, loud, sustainy harmonics is the 35" Traben Pheonix 5 - nice!

Another option is to use a dedicated amp purely setup for producing loud harmonic's.

Amps ? Mids ? Man, I played a fretless '73 p-bass for 17 years through a
Sunn amp that didn't have any mids. I was able to get loud harmonics.

Bottom line IMO: it's in your fingers.

Don't use amps and sonic controls as crutches .

New strings. Newer strings will break up into harmonics more easily.

Thanks folks, i played around with the EQ settings and cranked the mids and adjusted the compression, not only are the harmonics actually audible in a band setting, everything is clearer, i can hear my self better and i have a growlier tone. My tapping sounds better too.

I just got from practice by the way. We never sounded as good as we did tonight, especially me.

I have to agree that it takes a lot of practice to get harmonics to sound clear. Getting them just right, releasing them at the right time, etc, it makes a huge difference. But yeah, mids and compression do help a lot!
