HAHAHA! That made me legit LOL here in the bassment!

I dunno... I'm very happy and thankful to have what I have, but I know my herd is a paltry pile when stacked against some of the better players and more established members here. I am definitely a bit obsessive when it comes to my hobbies, and my wife and I don't have any children to siphon off our funds. I would probably just have a one-string shovel bass if we had chil'rns around here! Instead, these are my babies and my wife refers to them as such. The LowEnd in my profile pic is named "Bassby" for bass-baby, and has been a part of our family's Christmas cards for 3 years running! My wife was actually the tipping point in telling me to pull the trigger on that build, after me pining away for over a decade for one of Brian's basses. While she gives me crap about it every time another piece of gear crosses our home's threshold, it's mostly tongue-in-cheek... I think.

Here are some raw shots from this year's card, featuring Bassby and his new little brother, Crockett - the Miami Vice themed bass. The whole idea of having Bassby appear on our first card a few years ago was hers! People cracked up, and starting in October every year now people start talking about next year's card and wonder what they'll see. It's been a lot of fun.

Here's a bassment shot from today. There's just a straggler Squier fretless PJ conversion and a couple 6 string guitars out of frame.

This forum has definitely been a blessing or a curse for me, depending on your perspective! My wife would prefer I spend less time here being encouraged to dream up new ways of burning currency, but she also knows I really enjoy everything about these instruments - from building, buying, modding, and finally playing them. I wish I could figure out how to make a living just by being an enthusiastic hobbyist with very little talent! Truly, I'm nowhere near the player that most folks here are. I am just happy as a clam pounding out root-5s all day wherever someone will let me join in the fun!

I appreciate this forum and all the members who partake in thoughtful and encouraging discussions around bass guitars and the playing thereof. And I apologize for any fiscal folly in which I may have aided and abetted!

Thanks for sharing! I will continue to live vicariously through witnessing your lavish spending habits.

So I was in the rotation to play a church Sunday and took the Aerodyne with me. IT. WAS. AWESOME!

5 Day Update: I'm still in love with this bass! I even managed the VVT setup just fine, haha! I'm used to VBT in all my other basses, where I've only got to remember to roll one knob down between songs, etc. I ran the neck at full and bridge pup at about 80% throughout the service, and tone rolled off a bit to 75ish% as well.

If you're ok with hearing mistakes and want to know how the Aerodyne sounds, the livestream crew actually had me up in the mix pretty well this Sunday. I have the video cued to right where it comes in in the first song: (Warning, the pastor's mic is HOT when he comes in after the first song at 8:37!)

I was just running through a Trace Elliot Transit B preamp pedal. I had a bit of compression on, and a moderate amount of boost to the lows and low mids. Mids and upper mids flat, and a very little cut on the highs. No pre-shape, and no overdrive. Sound guys told me they left my channel flat on the board. Our sound guy is pretty good, and he really liked the Trace pedal. Very clean and strong signal that sounded great, he said.

I just had a private discussion with another member about how great these Aerodyne Specials are. It's been 8 months and I've since added 3 more Jazzes to collection since I got this baby blue beauty, and I love it even more now that I did initially. It's just about perfect when it comes to a cleaned-up classic J sound with modern feel and impeccable build quality. If I'm honest, I could just show up with this bass to any gig situation and be perfectly happy. My sound crew loves it. My drummers love it. It's absotootly gorgeous, easy on the shoulder, and a joy to hold. Even the volume and tone knobs feel really nice, haha!

The price recently dropped to $999 on all the Aerodyne Special stuff at Sweetwater, and I would assume that to be true at other retailers as well. I think that is an INCREDIBLE value! I'm not even mad I paid $200 more for mine. These things are just fantastic. If you are on the fence, give one a try!
