Machine Head gear slipping

Hi there.

I just found out that two basses i own have the same issue with fender style machine heads. Both are under warranty and things are being handled, but out of interest, i tried to find out if anyone had similar problems and could not find any here on TB.

I would say yes and then I bought Hipshot tuners. Fairly common upgrade.

I realized i never asked if anyone had similar issues. Tha was sort of my main reason for posting Hipshots are nice, but €€€... crazy expensive. 50€ a piece.. any other good brands that are good but work?

Is the screw on the crown gear tight? That's the screw that holds the gear to the string post.

Tighten the big screw.... And never buy a motorcycle. I joke.

But, point is, machines need maintenance whether a motorcycle or a tuning machine, bolts work loose on vibrating installations and need to be periodically inspected and tightened as needed.

Yes. Of course I have tightened that screw. Should have mentioned that earlier. i ha e built a few basses from scratch too, so I am not totally incapable with repairs etc

Those appear to be Schaller BM tuners (or copies.) Available here. Bass BM
Before you order new tuners, follow @Turnaround's advice and make sure that crown gear is tight. You might want to turn the post 90 degrees before tightening, as the cut away portion of the post might be caught under the lip of the plate, which would prevent you from fully drawing the post up into the gear. I would pull the gear to make sure the post is properly seated and then reinstall the gear.
