Made in America???

Where was your (main) bass made?

I don't care where it is made as long as it is a quality instrument (materials, workmanship etc.)

My main bass is a USA made Fender 64 Jazz custom shop closet classic relic made in 2006. I made the decision to buy it in 30 seconds after playing at least 100 instruments in my search.

My second bass is a 1996 Made in Japan fretless jazz. I wanted an unlined fretless bass equal to my 64 but they were never made in the USA. The custom shop wanted 4500 to build one for me - ridiculous! The MIJ jazz had the fingerboard coated and Bartolini PUs installed and I put in reverse tuners. The total cost was about 850 versus the 2500 I paid for the 64 relic. I play the fretless just as much, if not more, as the 64 and love them both equally.

I've since become a big fan of Japanese instruments. I find them just as good if not better for 1/3 the cost.

I've since bought an early 80s Squire Strat to fool around on and it is awesome - paid 350 for it!!! An equivalent American made Start would be 1200!!!

I am a US citizen & prefer to sink as much of my money into the US economy as possible. I'm not 100% accurate as there are the occasional items that need purchasing & happen to be non-US made.

That also being said, I don't buy & sell basses like lots of folks do - I've had my first one since 1994 (my dad owned it since 1978), my second brand new since 2004, & my latest since Sept. 2007 (second owner). All US - made, just like me.
