So I'm sitting at work today talking to a friend about the 5 string I'm planning to start in the next week or so. I get to the point where I tell him that I just can't find any decent lumber in town, despite having a couple high-end millwork companies, and he tells me that he just helped throw out some leftover boards from repairing the floors of some shipping containers. Naturally, my first thought is "marine grade plywood isn't exactly what I'm looking for" but he stresses that this is solid wood and "VERY heavy". I tell him I'd like to see a piece annd he tells me that he'll be back after he finishes up the job he's doing.
About 20 minutes later he pulls up in his van and gestures for me to come take a look. There, laying in the back of his van, is an 8 ft. long x 10 in. wide piece of 8/4 Sapele!
So, I have been searching the forums and have yet to find any builds with a Sapele neck. I would imagine that since it is basically a mahogany that it would work fine. Am I missing anything? My plan at the moment is a 5 piece neck-through, 3 Sapele strips with 2 Wenge strips.
