Making a 6x10 cab... Ohms?

To put it into perspective if one was to take a graduate level course in speaker building the actual construction of a cabinet would be the 'final exam', taking place at the end of the semester, after some 80 hours of classroom instruction and perhaps three times that amount of home study. The questions posed by the OP would be covered within the first two weeks of classes.

Maybe he's metaphoricly in the second week of class and is going to build at the of of the semester.

The only to gain experience is by doing. So how then is it good advice to tell someone to not bother building a cab?

So a guy walks into a bar and says to the bartender
Im making a 610 bass cab but to make it 4ohm need to find 24ohm speakers and cant find them. If i do it with 32ohm speakers the cab will be 5.33ohm. Can this tipe of impedance damage my power amp? that only say it should be loaded with 8ohm or 4ohm cabinets
The bartender says:
Buy a 6x10, used if you can't afford new. If you had the necessary skills to design and build your own cab, which are considerable, you would not be asking this question

I've really gotta ask (and yes, this is a rhetorical question).

Why is anyone worked up about this at all? OP might have done a touch more research about the subject first... Posters after may have been a touch less than polite... But it's an internet forum. No matter what, there are all sorts of people of all different levels of knowledge and experience, and you have to filter every single thing you read. You're never going to meet 99.5% of these people. Someone being a little less than polite, or even outright rude, does not have to affect you in the slightest.

This is blown way out of proportion.

Good afternoon fellow TBers. Earlier I allowed myself to get bogged down in the semantics of teaching styles, nearly derailing this thread. For that I wish to apologize to the TB community. It has been apparent to me for some time that my mistake is an all to common one here on TB.

Please allow my to rephrase my self and my point.

In my opinion Mr Fitzmaurice is the worlds premier authority on horn loaded speaker cabinet design and an expert in cab design in general. I myself have been interested in folded horn speaker cabinet design for over 30 years however my knowledge of this subject is minuscule in comparison to his. That said I am not a fan of his style of teaching. The end.

Often times when starting to look into a topic you don't even know where to begin looking for answers so you ask others. People should either answer, state where the answer can be found or remain silent.

My minister always says that the things we say should always be true, nessessary and kind. If the thing you were going to say isn't all 3 then don't say anything. Bill's post was true, may have been nessessary, but clearly wasn't kind.

I have a lot of friends that are engineers. Many of them don't deal with emotion the same way as others people do, particularly as artists do. That alone makes the experience here in amps different than most other sub-forums.

The thread was not about BFM. My take on the OP was that if there was a basic lack of understanding of Ohm's Law, serial/parallel wiring, and solid state amp minimum loads, then the chance for succesfully building and optimizing a cabinet is going to be pretty low.

The FAQ's, PROMINENTLY stickied at the top of the forum has an enormous amount of basic information on DIY build, speaker selection and a megathread on Ohm's law, a basic algebriac equation relating Voltage, Amperage and Resistance. Manipulation of this equation allows the calculation of Power as expressed in Watts.
