Making a Jazz from parts...

Good luck with that, it should look awesome, the sound is the part you've got to worry about!
I'm amazed at the amount of people who build a parts bass, and then feel the need to put a Fender decal on it. Its almost as if the thinking is that the bass won't be accepted as being any good if it doesn't say Fender on the headstock.
That's one theory. I don't like a blank headstock, so the next time I order something from Warmoth, I'll add a chrome decal to that order for my fretless. I'm fine with my fretted bass saying "Moses".
I wish they'd let you make your own decals but its all marketing, you pay them to put their name on your instrument just so its not plain or boring; brilliant.
I 2nd that. I put together my white Jazz for around $200. I found a CIJ '62 neck for $20, white MIM '62 body for $60, Bassline pickups for $40, the pickguard for $18, control plate for $10, pots were $8, the jack was $1, knobs were $3, bridge was $12, and strings were $22, and the orange drop cap was $1. Granted, I got very lucky with the neck, body and pickups. A buddy of mine actually found the neck & pickups for me in a junk shop in El Paso, and since I work in a music store I was able to get everything else for a decent discount. Still, I love a good deal!
Does anyone have any experience with different woods they would like to share? Im curious about Ash, Koa, and How they would sound on a J, especially compared with alder.

It did have an audere preamp in that picture, which was a Vol-Bal/Mid-Bass/Treb-Tone preamp. I took it out and went passive and it just kills now.
