Making a Jazz from parts...

DSC06244.jpg

This is mine! :)

If you buy new parts(Warmoth,Allparts, etc..) your going to spend a lot of $$ and if you don't like the finished product you'll lose a lot of $$. But if you take your time and look for ebay used parts and go with low ball bids you can build a nice bass cheap. I've built a Jazz for under $500.00 and a P for under $400. Both were solid player and both were sold for a profit on ebay.

I 2nd that. I put together my white Jazz for around $200. I found a CIJ '62 neck for $20, white MIM '62 body for $60, Bassline pickups for $40, the pickguard for $18, control plate for $10, pots were $8, the jack was $1, knobs were $3, bridge was $12, and strings were $22, and the orange drop cap was $1. Granted, I got very lucky with the neck, body and pickups. A buddy of mine actually found the neck & pickups for me in a junk shop in El Paso, and since I work in a music store I was able to get everything else for a decent discount. Still, I love a good deal!

I say DIY. I did, and I can't even do fret work all that well.

Hey Joel, that a really nice bass. The binding on your neck looks really nice.. Is that from Warmoth?

Awesome looking basses you've got there! I love the P/MM, birdseye is killer.
Thanks. It play and sounds really great too!
The 18v Aguilar preamp is that makes it really powerful. :)

Joel, I hate the fact that every time I have a decent looking bass you come along and make mine look like crap. Grrrr!!!!!!!!!! Great looking bass though. Can I take her for a ride?

BTW what are all your parts? Mine are as follows:

Fender MIM Jazz body 3-tone sunburst
Allparts neck w/ block inlays
EMG JV pickups and electronics
Gotoh 201 bridge (gold)
Wilkenson tuners (looking to replace these with gold Hipshot Ultralites)
Fender tort pickguard
Fender control plate
Fender neck plate
Allparts gold strap buttons

Warmoth Jazz Body, Ash w/ Artic White Finish
Warmoth Jazz Neck, Maple/Maple w/ Pearl Binding and Block Inlays
Allparts White Pearl Pickguard
Badass II Bridge, slotted.
Hipshot Tuner Machines
Fender Control Plate and Knobs
Fender/CTS 250k Pots
Orangedrop .047uf Cap
Fender Neck Plate

It did have an audere preamp in that picture, which was a Vol-Bal/Mid-Bass/Treb-Tone preamp. I took it out and went passive and it just kills now.

What pickups do you have in the Warmoth?
