Making bass string through body

Anybody use something like this to drill thru a body?

Craftsman Drill Guide

I have a need to do the string-thru mod for the sake of string selection but have no need to buy a drill press... :rollno:

If string through makes no difference, then why do some basses have string through and some don't?
usually the more expensive basses have string through rather than the cheaper brands.
Are we being conned?
Absolutely not!
Any difference to any guitar has the potential to change that guitars sound, woods used, type of metal used, fret wire, nut size etc.etc. it may not sound much to the naked ear, but amplify it and it will become apparent.
Ever played a neck through, then played same style bass with bolt on? did you wonder were all that sustain went too on the bolt on?

If string through made no difference, then why would Fender waste their efforts building string through basses? Explain!

Are you asking those who asserted this idea 8 years ago in this thread to update? Or are you hoping for new thoughts?

Regardless of why builders do it, experience has shown us that it's not a huge difference. Any difference? Sure, someone might notice something sometime, but huge difference? Not in my own experience. :)

Appealing to fender as a gold standard doesn't really fly in my books either. It's a little asking why Lamborghini doesn't use wooden wheels like Ford's model t, after all, the model t was one of the first mass produced cars, right? :D
