Has anyone heard of doing converting a normal single balled bass string into a double balled one? I'm pretty interested in it. I just picked up a 5 string Steinberger Spirit and I would like some other options than steel or nickel. The piano wire would be cool, though. I'm even considering buying a bow string making kit. Any suggestions? Jason
Do a search over on the Musical Instrument Makers Forum - mimf.com - I saw a reference to just this subject and there was a link to a site that had a how-to on doing this to a standard string. Edit: I went over there and realized you would have never found it the way I described it It's actually a device for doing all things string related like making a ball end, or making a string from bulk wire. Here's the pic: It's at www.jpstrings.com
