Mango 'Hermit' - 4 String (30'' Scale)

I've recently made a start on another short scale 'Hermit' short scale, 4 string. (Click HERE to see the previous one).

I'm using White Limba for the body with a Mango top. The neck woods are Black Walnut with Maple laminates and an Ebony fretboard. It will have pair of my own soapbar pickups with 3D printed covers, and passive wiring.

Some more progress..

The Ebony fretboard has been glued to the neck and I've added some Maple/Limba/Walnut laminates to increase the thickness at the heel. I've routed out the control cavity and have made a cover from some White Limba. I've also routed the roundover on the edges of the body and drilled the holes for the jack socket and recessed strap buttons.

Thanks. It's not a semi hollow, but the body is chambered to help reduce the weight.

OK, I've subscribed because your work is always amazing. But your workshop is too tidy. It makes me feel competely inadequate about mine which is always an unbelievable mess. So either start creating some chaos or I'm going to have to un-sub. The choice is yours.

I suppose the other option would be for me to tidy mine....

I haven't had a great deal of time to work on this build over the last few weeks, however I have wound the pickups. They're a split-coil design, with large (9mm) Alnico V magnets, wound with AWG42 wire for the neck pickup and AWG43 for the bridge coils. They're housed in black 3D printed covers.

A quick update.. the frets are in, the neck is shaped (not glued in yet), and I've carved out the arm rest on the body. It's now ready for final sanding, fretwork and finishing

Long time, no update! This build was put on the shelf for a while, as I had a couple of commissions and other work taking priority. When I finally started work on it again, I made the decision to ditch the original neck. I wasn't 100% happy with the shape and as much as I hate wasting materials, sometimes it's better to start from scratch.

Neck no2 is made from African Mahogany, with a central piece of Maple and Black Walnut laminates. There's still a bit more shaping and sanding to do, but it's almost ready to be glued in.
