I have been playing with the idea of getting another fretless. I had a MIM Jazz fretless years ago that I loved, finances got hard in college and i sold it. Im back in the market and looking for another, a P Bass, much like what Rondo has. Im curious though, my Jazz had a rosewood fretboard, but I love the look of maple necks, what's the tonal differences between the two when applied to fretless? is a maple neck going to have the growl a rosewood has? maybe more? anybody have any input on this?

no, i haven't. But, and correct me if I'm wrong, isn't Pau Ferro & Ebony a more expensive material? I'm looking for something budget, something to play around with.
Thanks Mike. I honestly did a search, but, it seems I never search the right "word combination". If that makes sense.
I just did "maple" and "rosewood", but for really common words like that, it helps to go into "Advanced Search" and select the option to search in "Titles only", so you only get threads about them (with those in the title) rather than every thread that mentions those words anywhere in the postings.

Maple and rosewood do not hold up well for a fretless that is why they tend to use ebony or ovangkol.
Rosewood will be darker and maple fill be brighter - some people coat their rosewoods with epoxy so they can take the stress of roundwound strings grinding into them. Maples will already have a poly finish on them. Both will eventually wear out which is why people often use Ebony or Pau Ferro or Wenge. The ebony and wenge may cost a little more but i don't think Pau Ferro is that much more expensive at all.

um, no, ghoul, i don't play metal, did in high school, but it was more slayer and megadeath at that time. now its more classic rock & blues. thanks though.
