Marchlewski Basses

I often wonder what is going on with Jake. The basses he made for Wolfehollow and the bass he made for me are really nice. I know after he finished mine he had a rash of orders. Most people were really geeked with their basses. I know of one person who was not completely satisfied and sold his.

Anyway, I never get tired of posting pics of mine, so here goes.....

wow that is gorgeous. someone posted a picture of a single cut 6 string, which was maybe one of the best looking basses i've ever seen which is what made me decide to make this post. i had never heard of this maker before but this looks like some really impressive craftsmanship.

I couldn't find a web page on a quick Google search, but didn't really look too hard. When I saw some of Jake's work for the first time I was VERY impressed, and this was very early-on in his building career. Supposedly, his acoustic guitars rival some of the bigger high-end names out there.

I don't know if this is his official site but i do know that it isn't working too well, like the gallery is not working at all:( I anyways check the site every now and then in case it would work normally.

Actually I think he started out with acoustic guitars. Wolfehollow came up with a really sweet bass design and had Stambaugh build a bass from that design. Then he convinced Jake to build one from that design. That may have been Jake's first electric bass. My bass was also built from that design. Wolfehollow's is a 4 string fretless, mine is a 5 string fretted.

Then Jake built for Wolfehollow the singlecut 6 string that I believe is the bass you mention as being your reason for starting this thread.

As far as workmanship goes, Jake did a really good job with mine. The wood assembly is on par with the top builders in the game (keep in mind I own 2 Alembics and a Roscoe). My bass had some issues early on with the 18V 3 band EQ that I specced for it. It was a bit much to cram into such a small bass, so Jake re-wired it for a more conventional 9V system. The adjustable nut is positioned slightly off the edge of the fingerboard, treble side. Due primarily to my insistence on having an adjustable nut (Jake obtained a Warwick version) converging with my insistence on the neck dimensions.

Hi! I love my Marchlewski basses. I own 3 at the moment. That sticmann site is his brothers I think... he keeps that up for him... I think we will see some more basses eventually. Jake is a busy man nowadays. What else do you want to know?

We both live in Pensacola... to answer an earlier question.

Well....I am blessed and cursed to own a Marchlewski (like a few others around here). Cursed in the fact that I want another one, and, will probably never get one. Jake isn't really building anymore (AFAIK), and don't know when he will be (if ever). I've tried (and owned) SOOOO many other basses, over the last several years...and keep coming back to what (IMO) is the best bass on the planet, for which I am truly blessed to have.

Wow, good to see Jacob's name up on this forum again (it's a name that really stands out!)

I also had a Marchlewski fretless. VERY sweet bass with great craftsmanship. As with others here, I agree that the craftsmanship was completely on par with any high end name discussed here.
Why do I not have the bass anymore? I made the mistake of ordering a stabilized fingerboard for the fretless, rather than an "organic" wood or a diamondwood board. The bass did not have a "mwah" tone to it, but rather had a "taaawww" tone to it that was just too different for me to keep it. Also, I had a lot of bloodwood laminates in my bass which I believe aslo squelched some of the wonderful mids in there. It is no reflection on the great job Jacob did - it was my mistake for ordering the wrong types of wood.

It was a beautiful bass.

I've been waiting to see when his name would appear again on TB. I'm gonna go on record right now as saying that Jacob Marchlewski has a God-given talent. I mean, that lad is a genius!! I've never played any of his basses, but his work is as clean as a luthier who's been at it for 30 years, he's the most natural bass builder I think I've ever seen, on Talkbass or any other forum. It was around the time I was buying my RBV that Jacob seemed to disappear, because I was considering an order and had to look elsewhere.

If he's decided not to build any more basses or instruments, that is absolutely criminal.
