Marcus Miller on SBL

Great interview. One thing Marcus said that really sank into me is the importance of slurs in articulation. Now I can see where he's coming with his solo playing. He likened it to the burp of a fast walking bassline in bebop. Cool.

I think the point he made of knowing how to write for the bass is so important. He showed Stanley Clarke and Jaco compositions played to the instrument's strengths instead simply coming up with an upper register melody. That time in High School and college band plus classes, gave Marcus a really solid sense arrangement and orchestration.
