Marcus Miller pickguard

Does the pickguard that comes on the Marcus Miller sig jazz bass have holes for a thumbrest at the top of it? I don't want those, but I do want the holes for a chrome pickup cover. If it doesn't have the ugly thumbrest holes, I'm going to order that pickguard (not the whole pickguard setup, just the main, normal, part) and a chrome pickup cover from Bass Parts Resource.

The Marcus Miller bass has holes drilled for the pickup cover but not for the thumb rest.

HOWEVER: the Miller pick guard may not fit your bass without modification. It's far easier to drill holes in the bass yourself than replace the pickguard.

How is it different than a standard Fender pickguard? The only reason I want the holes pre-drilled is because I don't want a crooked pickup cover.

Its really easy to square it to the pickup...just make sure the drill bit is in the center of the pickup's side. Or you could eyeball a center line on the cover and line it up parallel to the bridge.

It might be a different size which might require a dremel to the neck pocket of the guard. (more work altogether)

I drilled holes into my Sadowsky for the pickup cover. It's not hard just make sure you have it lined up RIGHT before you drill those holes!! Also, on Fenders these days there are lots of cavities cut out under the pickguard. In the old days the only routing was for the pups and under the control plate. You could even take the pickguard off. I had a MIA Fender deluxe a few years ago and put a pickup cover on it (the same one on my Sadowsky now). One side was just screwed into the pickguard because of one of those cut outs under the pickguard. It held firm but it felt too close to the neck so I took it off and left the screws in. New Fenders are not spec'd out like the old ones from the 60's and 70's.

Ok, then you should be in good shape. Just take your time. Use masking tape to tape the pup cover in place. Eyeball it from all angles and when you're satisfied drill the holes (shallow) no more than a qtr inch deep. That way you have lots of wood for the screws to bite into.
