they're both damn good basses but I think if you're looking for more of a modern type tone then AM Deluxe would be the way to go, I currently have the MM5 and it's ok. Personally for what's suppose to be a 70's sounding type bass I don't think it sounds like one at all and for a bass that's almost $2000.00 dollars I would look at a couple more Jazz basses around the $1500.00-$2000.00 before I'd pull the trigger on that one
