Never big on the Mary Jane. Last time I did, I thought I could swim acroos the Atlantic to Europe..Didn't work out to well for the home team.

__________Bottom line is, all the great ones who did it, didn't have a happy ending.

It's great now, but long range, it's probably going to limit you.

yes it does enhance the creative experience, no question (except for those who do not partake or have issues in the way).
I think that you have to be prepared through good practice and work for it to be positive and you should not overdo it and never depend on it for your connection to creativity. Keep that in mind and it should be fine. Time honored practice for musicians for sure.

I have smoked more weed, in more situations, in more ways, for the longest periods possible, for the least periods possible, then probably anyone here. I have done my own research thoroughly. The original q was what do we think. Its crap! It might be good for other things but not smoking. Especially not while you're trying to connect with your inner bass player. What's the point though? I'm either preaching to the converted or making the people for it shake thier heads. Is it that you really care if weed can help you or that you dont believe in yourself?

The music only seems better because your judgement is compromised. In reality is gets sloppier.

Ahem....there is a PILE of musicians and record producers who you argue with you until the cows come home. I have seen a RP hand a guitarist a joint and say come back in 10min and try recording that again

Again there is a list of them....SO where are you getting your experience and info on this subject to say there is judgement compromise and or "in reality it gets sloppier"

this should be good :rollno:

You need to quit drinking the government kool-aid. Just because something is deemed illegal, doesn't mean it should be.

I don't drink anyone's kool-aid. I never buy into what people (government or other entities/institutions) want me to believe. You will notice that none of my previous comments had anything to do with the legality of pot.

My comments are on the topic of the effects of pot and how I am of the opinion that pot holds people back from their ultimate potential. (Again, that is just my opinion and certainly does not mean it is fact.) But I will never change my opinion on the effects of pot.

As for its legality, I think it is silly that pot is illegal. I see it no different than alcohol. Why is alcohol legal and pot illegal? It makes no sense to me.

IMO, all recreational drugs (including alcohol, pot, coke, etc) do more harm than good. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

there is a big difference between marijuana and other drugs. also, you need to understand that everyone is different and is effected in different ways.

some people dont drink coffee often, so if they drink one before a gig they could get jittery and anxious and effect their playability. does that mean everyone who drinks coffee before a gig is going to be sloppy.

and the fact that it makes you "stupider" is an old wives tale. there are thousands of well educated people, who contribute greatly to their communities, life normal everyday lives and smoke enough pot to knock most people. it is completely unfair to associate marijuana with childish behaviour, sloppy music, and unintelligence. I can think of a few music professors that i have met in my day that were some of the most interesting people i have encountered in my life (unreal player's as well) who were very open/avid marijuana users.

so in conclusion, it may not work for you, but try to have a little bit more of an open mind. just because i like my grass does not mean that i dont work hard.

+1

I do think you're probably right. I don't often excessively drink (maybe once a year) but I always regret it. I haven't often excessively gotten high (just a few times in my life) but also largely regretted it. And I have witnessed crack and heroin do extensive harm to friends and family.

So, you do make a good point on this. I think it maybe wasn't wise to imply that anyone who would disagree were necessarily potheads, though. But that's your choice.

It is a great way to make yourself stupider. It ruins your creativity. And for someone like me who gets urine tested at work it would destroy a good career.

Drugs and alcohol do not increase creativity. Substance abuse is a dead end. It shortens your life and destroys your health.

The music only seems better because your judgement is compromised. In reality is gets sloppier.
Are you kidding me! The 60's - 70's era was merely all drug induced, hallucinigenic, pot smoking music that endures to this day! Good thing those music legends of that era didnt ruin thier creativity by smoking a joint! The greatest 20yrs. of music in my opinion. Open your minds!!

I believe pot is the least harmful of abused drugs BUT not for everyone. I know people who are in their 50s and function very well stoned all the time. Then there are people like myself who had to stop because it was destroying my life. I couldn't remember anything, I was late for stuff and life just became foggy and unproductive.
IMO it can help creativity by helping you zone in.
But I remember my friends and I were jamming and creating all kinds of stuff and we recorded it. We all were blown away by how incredible it sounded. The next day, while straight, we listened to it and laughed so hard by how horrible it was. Good times!

LOL!! That was freakin hilarious!!!

Bingo. That's the delusion I referenced earlier. Drugs will fool you into thinking you are better than you really are. Some people need that, I guess.

If it works for you, do it. If not, don't. It's that easy. Asking people's opinions on it is useless. Also, if you're trying to make a point on Marijuana, by stating facts; PLEASE spell "Harvard" right.

Thanks onosson. Sometimes I can get carried away at the keyboard, and it comes across as being arrogant or fault finding. I don't mean it that way.

I play bass in a reggae band so I smoke the herb from time to time...morning time to night time mostly

But im just another lazy burnout stoner with a full time job and a college degree in progress. What's right for me may not be right for you.

Jah bless

I empathize with anyone just trying to get through the day any way they can. But-

Music is a shared experience where I want to be very present and involved. I don't want something external to mess with my concentration or participation in the moment. To me music is like any other sacred thing -would you want to be stoned while watching your first child be born, or be there with all of your faculties?

I don't want to miss a thing.
