Markbass - HPF or not? MB don't seem to know!

Interesting question…..I wonder then, if a situation arose where an HPF could theoretically shelf and completely eliminate all sound below a set frequency point, what (if anything) would that do to the efficiency and perceived volume of the amp’s production above that frequency setting if all other equipment settings remained the same?
You are describing a brick wall filter, which is a multiple high order filter. They are more complex to build and can introduce problems of their own.

Yes, I love it! The Revsound 1x8" ended up being the perfect little baby cabinet for around-the-house playing during the quarantine. I'm hoping to make it up to Dave's shop sometime, to test-drive his bigger cabinets, like the vertical 4x8 and 4x10. He's fun to talk to on the phone, and he has some "secret" options not on the website. For example, he offered if I loaned him my amp head, he would do some experiments and build a cab that was the ideal pairing. I thought that was really nice customer service.

If you have a recording interface on your PC you can map your head's frequency response and see where the built in HPF frequency and slop is at.

With EQ plugins on your PC you can play with raising the frequency above the built in HPF and listen to how it sounds. You can then search for a Hardware HPF that matches what you find.

Never hook a speaker output from an amp into the recording interface on a computer. It’s a quick way to destroy the interface.

If 20hz is about as low as the human ear can hear, I guess it makes sense to eliminate anything below that point.
Note that bass guitar speakers can’t generally reproduce below 35Hz at any meaningful level either, that’s almost an octave that’s generally just as problematic.

Paging @agedhorse, he may have gone beyond the relatively modest 48dB/octave rolloff format I've tried using a DSP based HPF. ;)

8th order filters are beyond the point of diminishing returns IME, and are only practical in DSP. 4th order is pretty much the steepest practical filter slope in the analog world.
