Markbass Jeff Berlin combo Question

Hey Guys...anyone have experience with this combo? A friend brought one to me to try out for a bit. Really love the tone and lightweight! Problem i'm having is when i use my warwick double $$ thru it it seems to clip really easily...when using the Warwick in active mode, i cannot turn the gain past 2 or it clips on hard finger playing. Picking seems less sensitive. I ran the combo by itself which was better..but when using a Trace Elliot 8 ohm ext cab along with the combo's 15 i could hear the clip...hate to have to use the bass only in passive. This thing KILLS volume wise at rehearsal but do not want to invest in one if i cant get more gain. Am i doing something wrong here? Any input will be appreciated!
Thanx.

if it clips, that's all the gain it has. doesn't mean you're letting unused gain go to waste...it means it's not capable of putting out more gain with that bass. just turn down to where it doesn't clip and raise the master. and i forget if they have an active switch, but if it does, you could also use that if it makes you feel better to have the gain knob cranked.

Thanx Jimmy..yea it just feels weird not to be able to run the gain past 9:00. Sounds great and all...just was'nt sure if i'm missing out on more volume and dynamics. I can run the gain up a bit more on my LMII and Trace Elliot amps so not used to having to turn a knob ever sooo slightly! lmao

MarkBass amps have a really high gain input section (low sensitivity). I owned two and both were the same. I could not turn the input level past the 3rd dot with a passive Fender bass or it would clip. This was the LMIII and the TA-501 amps.

Also the master volume on both these amps stops functioning at 12:00. Anything past 12:00 and you get no increase in volume.

I think these amps were designed for low volume playing but giving the average Joe the impression that they are really loud.

Set the input so it does not clip, set the master on half way and if this will not do it for you, you need a different amp.

Hope this helps. :)

Thanx Red....This combo does have the LMIII as a combo head. That is hysterical about no more volume after 12:00! I will try that out today. My guitarist is a gear flipper and brought it over to try and sell it to me...price is half new..thing is mint...really light for a combo. But ive been itching to try out that new GB Streamliner that's all the rage here!

So I have the same question but the case is more extreme. I play an ESP F-414FM active bass on the Jeff Berlin 15" and i get clipping when the gain knob is half way to the first dot! This is even when the equalizer is all set to < 0dB. Is it my guitar? Is something wrong with the amp? I've messed with all of the settings on the bass and the amp. It clips until I turn the knob all the way off and then, of course, I get no sound because my gain is now zero... Thoughts?

Where it clips is going to depend on the output of your bass. The general consensus it to set the master volume very low. Turn up the gain until the clipping light comes on, then turn it back a hair so that the clip light barely comes on. Then use the master volume to the desired level.
