I have a Markbass CL106. I know what your thinking how the hell could I possiably be having problems with a Markbass product, they are unkillable??? Well its simple, the other day my cab was on a trolly at a rehersal studio when the cab fell over, when i went to pick it up I heard a thud, the sound of something moving.
I pulled one of the drivers out and I was greated to 2 magnet at the bottom of my cab. A small fall of a rehersal studio trolly managed to cause 2 of the magnets to fall of the back of the speakers. I've tried to put it back togeather but the voicecoil rubs so if i fired it up it destroy the speaker in an instant
The speakers are probally the cheapest made speaker I've seen. The magnet is glued to the paint on the speaker frame. When I checked out the B&C website, who makes the actual speaker it confirms the cheapness of it. This is a version of their cheapest 10" neo driver, the 10CL51, which I've seen for sale for $96.
Now here is the kicker when I contacted the Markbass distributor in Aus to find out if they had replacement driver. Not only did they not know what drivers are in these speaker boxes but when I read them out ever number I could find on the drivers mixed with getting my multimetre out and measuring the bastards impedence they promtly informed me that the only have one replacement driver for it, and it'll cost me $250. Which I thought was absoulty outragious!
Markbass can afford to charge that amount for a replacement driver cause for whatever reason they decided to get B&C to make 32 Ohm speaker for them to load into the Classic Series boxes. There are only 2 speaker manafactures today that make 32 Ohm 10" speakers, Emerence and Jenson, both of which use the tradition ferite design. So now I'm looking the possiablity of never being able to get this cab up and running again in its full form or costing me $500 to do so, if Markbass can find another speaker somewhere....
