Markbass ta-501 and ta-503

ya ya ya... another markbass thread.

I am pretty new here to talkbass, so maybe im just not searching the right things, but I can't seem to find much information on these two heads.

I can find all the information in the world on the LMII, but still not too much on the TA-501 and the TA-503.

I am just kinda wondering what peoples experience with these are, and how they compare to the LMII. and of course the ultimate question for a college student comes into play here as well... are they worth the extra money??

I found the TA501 to be a VERY warm, thick tuby sounding amp. Sounded very nice and I wouldn't mind having one at all. I'm think I'm headed towards the LMII though due to size and versatility.

do you think that maybe the tube in the preamp of the 501 is limiting its versatility where as with the solid state preamp of the LMII it is able to process whatever sound necessary??

I love the TA501 paired with the 106HF cab. I want one!!! Either an LMII or the TA501. I love the warmth of it. I was able to dial in almost any tone with it the last time I tried it out at GC.

I haven't tried the LMKII as a head, only the version in their combos, but I own a TA501, and the semiparametric mids makes the eq ten times more tweakable, at least I think so. and the tube is really only for the compressor I think, if it would make sense to you I think it could be dial out, but I'm not shure. anyway the I think the TA 501 is worth the money, I'm a student too:bassist::D:bassist:

I had both and kept the TA501. Honestly, I could have flipped a coin deciding which one to keep. The LMII is a little smaller, but the TA501 has more eq options, footswitch mute, eq bypass, and the compressor. Set flat they sound virtually identical and they have the same power ratings. Both have been/were 100% reliable. On pure aesthetics, I think the TA501 looks a little cooler than the LMII.
