Markbass???

Ya I've heard of them and stuff, but they don't seem like they're flying off anyone's shelves! Not to be disrespectful to anyone but are they like the old-guy car of bass? The really expensive one that doesn't even look that cool just has a heck of a lot of useless features? Or is it just because they are expensive? In that case, I wouldn't blame anyone ($1300 for a 8x10' is just too much!) Also if anyone has tried them out or anything any imput on how they sound...

Really? My guitar center has like almost all the same old markbass stuff still hangin round... just askin cause I might just pick one of thier heads up if it goes on clearance... and ya im SORTA new... I think like a month and a half or sumpthin like that...

Guitar Center is getting like Macy's. If it not on sale wait it will be. I think I saw a MB cab their for $350 last weekend and today I called about it and they said it was $550. I will wait until the weekend and then see what they have over the the presidents day sale.

With regard to the original post my initial impression of MB was just like yours. I think the look is awful. However after going through a few different heads I broke down and bought an LMII. So far its my favorite bass head I have owned. Its predecessors were and two Eden heads and a new Trace Elliott. What it lacks in features it makes up for in tone.

Most people won't buy an amp just because they've heard of it. Here are three factors that should help in deciding whether to buy one or not:
1. You like the way it sounds
2. You either like the looks or don't care because the sound outweighs the looks.
3. You can afford one and/or there's nothing else comparable at a comparable price.

Those apply to the purchase of many other amps as well, unless they look really cool of course. :) Seriously, since they're right there at GC, just try one for yourself. You might like it or maybe not.

I was just messing with the OP...Ya I can see why some people might not dig the Orange and Black Scheme...I took to it right away because I was bored with the typical Vintage Ampeg type Cabs...I'd never owned A combo that was 350watts and weight 44lbs also....The head is super popular and you could put it to so many different cabs of your choice if you are not into the Markbass Cabs.

Well first off the looks deal was only a comparison to cars... I don't care bout how my amp would look. As long as the thing rocks and wont break if I scratch it :P As a matter of fact, I'd take a old-looking (but new-ish) ampeg over a brand new ampeg.

And that I was talkin bout thier heads... I actually did try one of their heads... I think it was the R500... the distortion was sweet! Gonna save up and grab that one up. Sorry if the post above came off a lil harsh... didn't really think bout how i was typing :). Not to change the subject but rather than waste post space, would 2 4x10 give you the same tone as a 8x10 or would it be totally different??

The cabs dont sell so well, but the amps are quite popular.

I wonder why that is? I tried an SA 450 out with a 410 ported MB cab and thought it sounded great. Good enough that I bought a 450 from a fellow TBer (just arrived) and am thinking about getting the 410 now. Kind of a freak in that I like my cabs and heads to match. I have 4 GK cabs and a Genz cab but would want an MB cab for my 450. :hmm:

If you search for threads about MB here, you'll find a lot of people saying the colors turn them off so much they wouldn't even consider trying one. That's why I emphasized the color. I have to admit, I also passed by the MB stuff at GC thinking they looked like toys. But reading about them here I finally tried one and was blown away. It was like trying a Tonka truck and discovering that it could pull a load of granite. I like the cabs too but haven't had an opportunity to try many of the newer cabinets others rave about.

As to reliability, I've only had mine for about a year and don't know if it will last as long as my V4B. Actually, I probably won't last that long anyhow. They do seem to be built well though.

Seriously...you can't swing a dead cat around these parts without hitting some type of Markbass thread. Do a quick search and you'll find all kinds of stuff about Markbass. Most of the threads gush on and on....

"Markbass vs. Chuck Norris...who would win?"
"I think I saw through space and time when I plugged in my Markbass LMII"
"Markbass cured my addiction to Waffle House"
"California just approved marriages between consenting people and Marbass products"

etc....etc...etc...

With that said...I own a Markbass SD800 and it is one of the best amps I've ever played and I've owned A LOT of different amps over the last 23 years of playing.

Markbass products may not be fore everyone but I do, however, think my SD800 would beat Chuck Norris.

Any Markbass I've played through, I haven't been able to get a good high end out of it. It has a really good sound for the low bass and even the mids, but the high end is lacking, for stuff like Marcus Miller style. Is this just my experience or are they generally made this way?

Most people wouldn't buy a yellow pickup truck or passenger car. They mostly choose black, white, and the real rebels buy red.

If that truck was a Dodge Ram SRT10 "Yellow Fever Edition" or a Ferrari F-50 in Ferrari Yellow.............;)

I wouldn't be caught dead in a yellow jacket, unless that jacket was a Ferrari jacket, but now I would proudly fly Markbass colors by wearing some logo swag.

I just got back from GC and adopted a new LMII head and may go back tomorrow and get the Traveler 15" cab to match. I love the look, sound, and price of the LMII. At under 600 bucks for a 5 lb, 500 watt monster, it was a shut-out for the competition.

Ferrari = Superb quality and performance, made in Italy!
Markbass = Superb quality and performance, made in Italy!

Hmm, I'm no Mr. Obvious but I can make the connection.

Wear you Markbass colors with pride! Just look at it as you just got yourself a sports car, but PLEASE wear your seat belt.

Note for all the Ferrari purists: I'm aware that "Ferrari Red" is Ferrari's main color, but YELLOW! is a close 2nd. :D

OK.....I "sort of" get the hate for the yellow. I "sort of" felt the same way.......that was then this is NOW!!! I purchased the CMD 121P about a year and a half ago (to compliment my SVT4Pro and SVT6X10HLF).

I now carry my MB for at least 1/2 the jobs we play. Why? Weight and sound and tone. As a matter of fact, I began to like the yellow and black so much that I purchased a black and yellow cover to keep it looking great.........I am now a huge believer in those colors! Work for everyone? probably not...then again, I didn't buy it for "everyone else". I bought it for me.....and I'm a satisified customer!

And, I agree......Markbass would kick Chuck Norris' ASS!!!!! :)

No one cares!
Right! No one cares.

Markbass, like any company with multiple offerings, has items that sell better than others. And they probably sell better in some stores than others. Your local GC, while good for gauging sales in your area provided you have access to the sales records, is not representative of the world. Nor do you have access to their sales records.

If you go by the floor models you see as an indicator of what they're selling from wherever they keep the new in box products...
