Marlin sidewinder basses

Anyone remember these?

I've just bought myself another bass guitar recently [Epiphone non reverse Thunderbird 5 string] to complement my old Marlin sidewinder which I've had for about four years. I can't find any info out on this make of bass though so I would like to know what people think of them. It was my uncle's and dates from about the 80s. The body is pale pink [!] and the action is pretty tough - I recently had a friend restring it [the first time it's had new strings of any kind in at least a decade I reckon] but even so I frequently need two fingers to hold down a higher note in order to play it cleanly. I started playing bass on this about four years ago but haven't ever really played it too much, the main reason being that the old strings had zero elasticity left - it was like hitting iron bars. Even the new strings gave me a blister the other week.

Anyone else here own one or have experiences with them?
