Tail pieces can make an massive difference to sound quality and volume.
I once tried one of these Wittner tail pieces on a bass in orchestra.
These are very light, composite tail pieces and the sound and volume changed dramatically!
Was too loud and harsh for arco orchestral playing, but probably great for pizz.
I sold this bass to a jazzer with the wittner tail piece installed.
