Double Bass Massenet Meditation from Thais

Hi all, I was curious as to whether or not anybody had any idea whether or not there is a transcription out there of the Jules Massenet Meditation melody from Thais for solo double bass with piano accompaniment, and, if so, where I could get one. I've heard it performed, but I cannot seem to find a bass transcription of it. Thank you!! :cool:

It's in D (some people like to play it on the bass in C with solo tuning.)

If you play orchestral tuning (like me) you should start with second finger on the Dstring ready to play the B in bar 2 with 3 on the Gstring. it's up to you from there but I assure you it is quite playable as it is here.

Be careful of the D# after the high F# and use this fingering for the B-F#-D#-A-G that follows:

3 on the G string , 2 on the D, thumb pressed, and 3(!) on the Gstring, which sets you up for 1 pressed, not harmonic.

Hard to explain..

But, other pieces on the list include Koussevitsky's Chanson Triste, any complete Marcello sonata, any complete Vivaldi, the Eccles sonata, errrm.. the Gigue from Rabbath Book III, the Gigue from Bach suite 2... excerpt from 3rd mvmt of Beethoven's 5th. It's hard to remember.

... so maybe bridging intermediate and advanced?

The next level (Associate Diploma) has the Bottesini Elegy (and it might even have Proto's Sonata 1963). The level below (grade 7) has the Bottesini Reverie.. so it's somewhere between those two.

The ABRSM, which is an international/British equivalent of AMEB, has its syllabus' available for download Invalid Link Removed.

It's not on their list, but their Grade 8 is about the same as AMEB's grade 7.

The easiest way to get your own an arrangement of any piece is to just read it from the original. You should already know treble clef.

Sometimes you'll need to photocopy the piano score then cut the solo part off, tape the strips to a sheet then photocopy that.
