Matching 2 different Jazz bass pickups

Hello Everyone,

I have a lakland with basslines jazz pickups (Basslines SJ5-3S Quarter-Pounder) in my Lakland DJ5 and an Aguilar AG5 PJ HC on my Yamaha 425.

I was thinking to swap both bridge pickups as I am using the Lakland more than the other.

Is this a good idea? Please help

It's probably a pretty bad idea.

First off, the QP set is calibrated to go together. As such, you get hum cancelling properties because they are wound/polarized the proper way. However, if you swap the two bridge pickups, nobody can guarantee that the jazz set will remain hum cancelling, it may even be out of phase. QP set in particular is overwound, and I am not sure how many turns of wire the other bridge pickup has, but likely, even with both pickups full on, you will start getting hum on the lakland, worst case scenario, you'll get tone that has two times as much hum, but also extremely thin signal, if the pickups are out of phase.

So no, don't do it, it's a bad idea in general to split a jazz bass set designed to go together. If you really want a better bridge pickup on the yamaha, you'd probably be happier if you got a noiseless J pickup anyways. If you REALLY want the QP pickup on yamaha and don't really plan to play the lakland, I'd say go for it. You can't play two basses at once, anyways.
