Is his grind bass sound from Moog or is it just a distortion/sustain pedal?

In weezer's golden days (when Matt Sharp was with them) he used an Orange guitar amp and an 8x10, so I would bet that it was just amp distortion.

If you have a specific song you are refering to, that would help us figure it out.

"waiting" and "Friend of P" are great examples of Matt's fuzz tone.

The second Rentals album is quite different, but well worth it. More introspective....and interesting to boot. Very rawkin.

On his website (http://www.mattsharp.net/) second article down there is a download of him doing a horrible version of The World Has Turned. I don't know what was up with him that day but he looked all heroined out.
