Double Bass Matthew's ISB Bass

thanks for your comments everyone.

Yes, that is a removable neck, in the most discreet way I can devise.

The darker spot on the heel pops out with a pin; it is held in place with a magnet. Underneath, a single hex-head bolt. The heel is chalk fit into the mortise as usual. If you don't like the bolt it can be removed and glued in pretty invisibly.

Not happy with the varnish match actually; I did that in a hurry off the body to be in time for ISB. I will reshape the neck slightly and revarnish that section of the heel.

Your issues with the varnish match aside, I really like it. The wood is beautiful, your solution for attaching the neck is very elegant and damn near invisible. If I ever get paid to travel and play, I want that. Now finish that poor old French bass, please!

... great looking bass Matthew!

(pssst ... Matthew restored my bass in Sydney last year ... a difficult and protracted project ... my old German is now a practical instrument with its great sound preserved ... I highly recommend him for his skill, great care, and work ethic)
