https://www.mauriziouberbasses.com/mub Anyone familiar with these? I found a thread from a few years back in the TB Luthier section, but not much else on them. Looks like a small builder making some interesting designs with nice finishes. Prices seem reasonable. The Miezo really keeps me coming back to their site. It’s like a Wing Bass with more body. The video demos sound good for a super short scale. It’s always a gamble buying without playing and there’s no real way for me to try one, so I thought I’d see if anyone here had experienced to share. I also thought that since the builder has some TB roots that there must be some people here who have tried other models as well.
Looks like a version of the Wing bass. Wing Instruments EDIT: Sorry, missed the reference to Wing basses on your OP the first time I read it. Those you show look really cool!
Sorry to resurrect the old thread, just wanted to say I own a bass from MUB (was searching for them looking to see if we had a club yet!) - the G5 "Maranello." It's an incredible instrument, easily comparable to basses I've played costing twice as much, and Maurizio is a hell of a nice guy and absolutely great to work with. I haven't personally played one of the Miezos but plan to order one if need arises (not doing much traveling these days). He's started building headphone amps into them as an option, which I think is super cool. He's working on some new travel-oriented stuff too, but I don't have specifics outside of what he's been teasing on social media. Here's my NBD thread about mine NBD - MÜB G5 "Maranello"
I saw that. It’s a nifty idea. Someone asked him if he could drop an octave-down circuit into the electronics, and he said it shouldn’t be too hard. I’ve DM’d him a few times on IG, and he seems like a very nice guy (assuming he’s managing the IG account). It’s been hard not to order one after those exchanges. Thanks for the feedback.
Yep, I think he has someone manning the FB page during the day here in the States as Kuala Lumpur is 12-15 hours ahead, but that's him on IG. Really, really nice dude. He'd always been friendly in our interactions before, but FedEx gave us a lot of grief shipping my bass and his communication and willingness to help in the face of that was really above and beyond.
I’m still not sure if I want a 5 or a 6. I’m tempted to do a 5 set up as EADGC, and get a 17mm spacing. I’m curious how much action adjustment is possible without a truss rod, and how it will play. I’ve got some nerve damage and dexterity issues, so playing position can have a huge impact on what I can or can’t do. My best attempt to guess has been using my Spector Euro 5 above the 12th fret.
I feel you - I cut my left pinkie off a few years back and while they managed to sew it back on, it doesn't move quite as quick as the others.
Sure! Tell us about the bass. What kind of music are you making with it? Solo, or in a band? What do you like and dislike about it?
It's great! The video says a lot about it, but I'm making solo music, arranging/composing for people's YouTube videos, and I plan on hopefully using it on the road/gigs with Ghost Tapes. It's great that it's tiny. I just drove a packed car 5 hours and had plenty of room for the bass. I like that it goes down to E, that the lumped strings are more in tune with the overtone series, the sound is enormous, there's a headphone amp that is crazy handy with aux in, and more than anything it's absolutely beautiful. Dislikes, hmm. It can be buzzy, but I'm going to raise the action to address that. Sometimes I over reach and find myself using my third finger more than I usually do. I'm a 124 with 3/thumb as an accessory kind of guy from starting on upright. Overall though there's not a lot to dislike. I'm not really a round wound fan, but on such a short scale is pretty fine. Chords can get noisey sliding on the roundworms vs having flats but that's the give and take for the length haha Alrighty, here's the video.
Nice. I ordered one, last week. Did you put the Varitone in, yourself, or did you have Maurizio do it? Was it worth it? I'm getting mine with the regular strings, and the Aguilar DCB pickup.
The veritone is too big to fit. So I had to Dremel the cover until it was paper thin. I don't recommend that unless you have awesome hand control with a Dremel. I probably could have shipped one to Mau, but I had this one already in another Bass. If you tell Mau at the beginning before he routesdroutes everything it'll fit just fine because he'll make it work. I would say tell Mau every detail of what you'll be doing and what you want and let him do it.
Hoping to revive this thread... my Miezo 18 will be here, next week. It's a 6 string. Maur recommended getting short scale strings, but I can't seem to find any for 6 string. Any suggestions?
Mine is a few weeks behind yours but should be here soon. I’m going’s to be looking for an E-C 5 string set eventually.
I've spent a few hours today, I can find a few short scale B to G, but finding a shortscale .30 is really difficult.
