Maximizing cable path for a GK1001RB

Hey hivemind,

I'd love your opinion about maximizing the output and sound of my rig please.

Galien Kreuger RB1001 (v2)
Galien Kreuger 410RBH (4x10" with a tweet)
SWR Big Ben (1x18")

Currently outputting out of both 1/4" outputs of the amp to each cabinet separately. Playing 90s metal with my Fender 5-string pro J-bass.

Am I better to go out to the cabs inline (outputting out of cab #1 to cab #2) or as is? Is there a benefit to using the speakon outs?

Open to all suggestions on my mix of vintage/new cabs and any thoughts on the rig overall please.

Thanks in advance.

The connection options you suggest are electrically identical - in both cases the cabs are parallel to each other so the head sees a 4ohm load, which is safe.

Speakons are rated for higher current loads and prevent accidental disconnection. I use them when I have the option. You probably won't hear a difference.

In terms of cabs, the Big Ben is sorely outgunned by the 410. I would stick the 410 on top for better projection. If money is no object, I'd replace the Big Ben with another 410, or a 215.

Thanks man.I was worried about the Big Ben being outgunned for sure. Also worried about it pushing amp out of balance for its outputs.

I'm looking for a bigger speaker to help represent the low "B" as I live down there a fair bit. Instead of another 410 I would lean to the 215 but money is a bit of an object. I might have a line on a Mesa 215. Any Brand concerns?

The Big Ben booms nicely while the 410 reps the mids better in my opinion; but I just don't want long term damage to the amp.

Thoughts?

Well, the important thing to keep in mind as far as keeping the amp alive is the 4 ohm limit - you can't go lower. So, adding a 215 to the 410, now that I think about it, might not be so easy, since most 215's are already 4ohms. So, I should have thought a bit more before suggesting that.

I think you'll find that getting a matching 410 will do wonders for the low end extension of your rig. You'll probably want to change the eq... If you dial out some of the high mids on the GK, you'll unmask the boom.

To the OP:
Your amp needs to have a 4 ohm minimum speaker impedance; going lower than 4 ohms can and will hurt the amp.
You are currently using 2 - 8 Ohm cabinets
While they are mis-matched in regards to efficiency and freq. compatibility, they will not pose an issue with the amp.
You are wiring them in a parallel configuration which yields a 4 ohm load.
This is a good thing.

If you keep one of your cabinets, you must add a cabinet with an impedance of 8 ohms or greater to keep from damaging the amp.

Many years ago, most folks used bigger speakers for increased low freq. response.
This is no longer the case.

There are very few 18" speakers (if any) being produced by reputable companies anymore.

The GK 410RBH cabinet you have is a great cabinet.
IMO / IME by far the best thing you can do is add another 410RBH assuming you need more volume.
