Maybe a needless question but

The virtuoso bassist Hadrien Feraud used an old phrase "old fart", in an interview. I was triggered a bit. While I admire his virtuosity i have a question about his capacity as a fundamental basic bass player
he said he started with the impeccable James Jamerson. same guy I started with.
CAN or DOES A virtuoso like Mr Feraud do that function. the way Rainey or Lee or Weeks or Dunn etc can ?
I DO respect him ... but has he spent more time as a soloist or as a keeper of the groove? I'm i guess an old fart ... and my soloing is not where near many in terms of speed
But to me, bass is about making the BAND BURN ... i seek opinions. without arguing. I'm sure this is a divisive topic about conception of bass playing

My question is sincere and my mind is open. you be too

i'm in my car and the album is not loading
but i wanted to say - I believe his "first
" album. the one with "Natural" And "Marie...." and "Shall We Dance "
has held my attention off and on since years back, i first heard it.
as a keyboard player bass player sax player. i'm appreciating that album from a more compositional point of view

i have not figured out how exactly i feel about it.
I hear all sorts of pyrotechnical wizardry from drums and bass and keys
and i like the Harmonies. and i esp like the bass CHANGING the harmonies by changing the bass notes
I'm assuming Mr Feraud is changing bass notes the same way even I have and my hero Ron Carter did with Miles and Herbie

changing bass notes is its own thing
so Hadrien using so cool harmony AND changing bass notes ( again , my assumption ) is enjoyable for me. a harmony nut!

i'm just not yet convinced about this talented virtuoso .
I like the more advanced ( relative to me anyway ) rhythms and the harmonies and the multiple players spinning fast notes at the same time
It's another way to play or make music and i respect it all
i just have a reservation. before i cal him a genius. which is what i call Jaco

does this make sense ?

WOW. WOW. WOW that album above WOW
this young man is very impressive .
i feel like an old fuddy duddy in this
way
like i was into louis armstrong ( who i revere btw ) and all
of a sudden this new fangled music comes along called be bop. two related but also very different languages
or going from be bop
forward in time to pianist cecil taylor
or early coltrane to love supreme

that’s how i feel about this very gifted bassist composer arranger producer

but questions are hanging around him. for me

WHO wrote all this music ? if this is Hadrien. wow. this guy is seriously talented .
Who are the other band members

now as far as groove playing … well i feel like an old moldy fig. to me eddie palmeri is the epitome of groove
or Headhunters w Paul Jackson
Or tony williams with Ron carter’s
James Brown Bootsy
Tower of Power Rocco
Verdine w EWF
Steve Jordan with Pino
Purdie and Chuck. those are some of my references to groove .

i’m still trying to wrap
my head around this new music
i’m very attracted to
it

thanks for sharing
if there are any serious Hadrien fans here. please educate me
thanks again
