Might the bass be anywhere near Asheville, NC? James Condino may be able to assess and ship it for you.

It's in Boston...trying to get it to Hendersonville.

Based off the picture, it looks like it'd be worth checking it out.

I had a bass shipped from String Emporium in Arizona to Texas using Southwest airlines cargo. They have a facility in Boston and two in NC: Raleigh and Charlotte, not sure if those are anywhere close to where the bass is. Also if it's close to Greensboro, the Bass Violin shop may be able to help with the logistics of shipping.

String emporium shipping, then you just have to drive to Charlotte to get it?

*edit - or maybe just get it shipped to your house from SE in Boston if the current owner can get it there?

Unfortunately, they (SE) can't/won't ship anything that isn't theirs and isn't brand new. See my earlier post if you're interested in the details. :-(

James Condino is a highly regarded repairer of basses in nearby Asheville. He may be able to advise on shipping from Boston and it wouldn't be a bad idea to have it sent to his shop for examination/setup etc.

Maybe some more/better photos are in order so it's easier to tell how big a hassle this thing is worth?

Honestly I'd drive to Baston and back for a grand, but my time's pressed at the moment. Willing to drive a few hours though if it helps (since OP lives close to me), just throwing it out.

Dear Everyone-
I just can't thank you all enough for the excellent info and input I have received about the bass. I will be in Boston at the end of March...and instead of dreading it, I am now excited to take the instrument to one of the luthiers mentioned in this thread...and if the bass is worth it, I can now get it down South via one of the shipping services mentioned in this thread!!
