Measuring Scale

You're mistaken, and you can't possibly be measuring to the 12th fret correctly.

It's twice the distance from the inside edge of the nut to the top center of the fretwire at the 12th fret. That distance will be 17" on any 1972 Precision or Tele Bass.

Well damn, you're right. I wasn't thinking, and was mistaking the "12th fret" with the "12th fretted position", and as such I was measuring only to the *11th* fret. Duh, I feel like such an idiot!

Thanks for pointing out my brain fart! I'll shut up now. <sigh>

I think you are measuring to the 11th fret, not the 12th.

Yes, that is *exactly* the mistake I was making, as I mentioned to another person here who corrected me -- I was thinking "12th fret" but I was actually thinking "12th fretted position" and as such I was only measuring to the 11th fret. Duh!

Sorry to have wasted everyone's time (but perhaps this will help someone else who doesn't know how to measure for scale.

You don't have to apologize. And you're not the first person to have made that exact mistake. The technical stuff with electric basses gets complicated and confusing.

But that's why we're here at TB. If something doesn't make sense to you, ask us. We'll try to sort it out for you.
