Mellow tone with a musicman stingray

there are a huge number of posts on "mellowing" a Stringray, but in short...yes

I agree too.
You can also roll the treble back to about 2 or 3, and play between the end of the neck and the pickup.

Flats sound great on a Stingray. You can fatten the sound with the eq, though. Try boosting the lows and mids a bit (lows more than mids), and cutting the treble a hair.
+1 one this. Try moving your right hand around a bit. I like the tone with my right hand between the bridge and neck.
Has anyone ever wired up a Stingray totally passive, i.e. VT or VTVT? I'd be interested to know what that sounded like.
flats are a must.don't play with a pick,and pluck as lightly as possible(or try playing with your thumb).then on the ray,roll the treble right off.roll the mids down a little more than half.keep the lows as you please.then on your amp,turn your treble and high mid range prtty much off.
