Melodic Effects?

I posted this on another forum but thought it would be cool to get TBs input also.

What effects would you consider more "melodic"?

In other words, non dirt and distortion related. Things like chorus, delays, mild synths etc.

No need to be brand/model specific (unless you want to), I am just wondering what is out there that I may have missed (or not come across yet).

organ-type multi-octaves are PF melodic: the Boss MO2, Walrus Luminary, I think EQD Organizer... but like reverb I think they're probably better suited for long notes, creating pads, great for looping over.

Delay can be used to create an entire new melody, by sticking old notes in between new ones as you play...

Stuff like chorus can certainly be used in a melodic way, but also falls into the realm of "texture" maybe more than "melody".

I'm not sure what constitutes a melodic effect, as in one that creates melody, but something like say Boss 'Slicer' or step filters, might fall into that category...

I couldn't think of a better way to describe it.

Let's say you are playing instrumental stuff and are adding effects to give the track warmth and space etc. (I specifically didn't say "warmth" in the OP because many drives are associated with being warm).

Edit: I suppose "texture" as mentioned by @DDXdesign is also a good reference, although dirt and distortion could also be classed as texture I guess.

I use an EHX SuperEgo with a Zoom MS-100BT in the effects loop. The Zoom has some very cool comb and step filters and a Slicer emulator, which combined with multi-tap delays and pitch shifters can create untold textures that have both rhythmic and melodic elements going on.

Eventide Pitchfactor or H9 - lots of harmonizing, pitch-shifting, and delay type of stuff. With the right preset it can be very inspiring.
