Hey, was looking through some local classifieds and found a Mesa Boogie 1x18 Cab at 400w at 8ohms. Tried to search it, but only got crap on the bassist of Greenday (apparently he uses one!)

Anyway wondering if anybody had more info or experience with this amp, is 1x18 farty or stupid low (I like my mids), does it sound ok once adding a 210 or 212? Running a 700 watt head (4ohms) through a 400 watt cab (8 ohms) any issues doing this?

Hi.

I have no experience of that cab, but judging by the power rating, and the fact that some of Mesa's 115 and 215 cabs are based on the EV 606 cabs, I'd guess it's just an EV 505.

I have used mine for bass, but they're better suited as bottoms on a PA rig.

Nothing prevent's one using them for bass cabs though if the tone is to Your liking.

Neither 606 nor 505 would be a cab that I'd consider bass heavy, especially if the original EV speakers are used. Products of a certain period of time, nothing more, nothing less.

Regards
Sam

I haven't used the Mesa 1x18, but I did use a Peavey 1x18 as part of my rig for a short time. Generally, a single 1x18 speaker is not going to cover the frequency range needed in a band setting. It will be very low, and yes, you will lose some precious mids. If I were you, I would pair it with a 2x12 cab that has a tweeter.
