"MESA BOOGIE TITAN V-12"...

a bit of warning with the Titan! there known to have issues.. if you reseach the Titan you'll read some,,I had a very bad and expensive one my self.. I bought mine new about a year ago, lucky to find it I guess,, I always used Ampeg SVT's and still own several, but the weight of those things was taking is toll on me,,so I searched for a replacement that had balls,, went though a bunch of heads searching for that golden sound. Than read about Titan, researching the Titan I read there were alot of problems with it,, some owners had em,,,others didn't,
Knowing this before I bought mine, I thought I'd take a chance and buy the brand new one I found for $2100 bucks. got it & it set-up,, seemed to be fine,,had several rehearsals,, no problems! went down to our studio were we rehearse to dial in some different tones experimenting with the overdrive and different channel settings,,I play loud! I ain't gonna lie... was playing at my normal loud volume with a setting that was killer when a crackling sound occurred,, turnd around to see smoke pouring out of the head and both my cabnets big time!,, looked liked a KISS concert there was so much smoke! scared the crap outa me and I don't scare easily!
it was done! well done!,,,after I made sure there was no fire and the smoke cleared. I grabbed one of my trusty STV heads pluged it in, and as I thought,, both cabs were toast,,cooked!,,, got on the intertube and looked for a Mesa service center and off I went,, took old smokey to the shop it had a 10 year warranty,,about 3 days later,,dude calls me up and says I can see some things burnt and I contacted Mesa and they won't give me the wiring schematics to fix it, they want the head back to repair themselfs and see what happened,,I thought cool! they made it,,let them fix it!,,,about 3-4 weeks later,,dude calls me up and says I got good & bad news.. the good news is they completely rebuilt the entire head updating all the componets no charge,, turns out the head was built in 2006! silverface. technology changes fast in this world so the upgrades made to the head after 7 years time was very beneficial, basicly better than it was when it was originally made. The bad news was,, because my cabs were not Mesa they wouldn't replace them..Ouch!
after getting the head back and buying two new Ampeg cabnets I've been running that Titan hard for about year now! NO PROBLEMS! the tone is amazing! absolutly huge,,massive bottom end and the overdrive is killer.
Mesa is an awesome company,,they stand behind THERE products 100%,, 10 year warranty on that head no matter who owns it.... your speaker set-up must be great,,Mesa makes really good stuff!
Just curious?? why do you want change up your rig?

Thank you for the respectable correction,, 5 year transferable warrenty,,I thought 10??,,,the Prodigy was released after I bought my Titan,,I would have seriously looked into that head before buying the Titan,,Love all tubes!,, No one sells Mesa in my area,, I'm very courious as the the tone & volume of the Prodigy,,wish I could try one..I still am concidering buying one,,the meer lite-weight of the Podigy has me wondering "can this lite head still have balls?",,(that almost sounds X-Rated!!)

I had a v-12 for a while but sold it to get my 750 back. Great head but I dig the simplicity of the 750 over it. I ran it through two ampeg 1x15s and the thing howled.
I thought about the 750,, would of saved me alot of money too! simple is good!! basicly the Titan is two Big Block 750's but with alittle more power,, 1200 vs 750. we all have the tone we all seek,
I personaly like excessive low end,, super heavy bottom you can feel,,the Titan gives this with plenty of headroom to spare. our guitar player runs a Marshall JVM full stack,, we play really loud, really LOUD,, rarely do we play venues that have a good sound system, most of the time were lucky to get a mic in the kick drum and snare,,so we rely on our amps for stage volume, I know my Titan will out gun most sound systems we encounter,,like my SVT heads did,, Thank you for sharing the gear your useing,,i like to hear what others are running,, seem's a select few like to run the Mesa stuff...
as a half arse guitarist I use Mesa Rectifiers,,, Ampeg SVT gear is just too heavy,,anything less than the SVT line of heads are garbage,,just my opinion,,I always say "Something for everyone ,but not for me!"

.......Awesome,,,just checked out yer mysapce page,,, GG allin! I had the honor of puking 3 times and running for my life in fear from a poop covered GG Allin, at one of his shows,,never foreget it!

It's all good heavymetal0061, I def. didn't want to come off sounding like an a**hole, lol. The Prodigy is a big, ballsy sounding amp for sure. I play in a metal band with 2 loud Rect.half stacks and a pretty loud drummer and going through my 4x12 PH I haven't had any trouble with stage volume, even running on half power. It's funny,I find myself using my WalkAbout alot more than the Prodigy, even use my D180 more, why? I don't know, haha. I've thought about selling the Prodigy, haven't completely decided on that yet. Time will tell I guess:thumbsup:

The titan is one of the best heads ever made, especially for pick and slap, or for dirty sounds. No boutique pedal will ever be able to get as good of a dirty sound as the titan. But its cleans are also really something special for percussive styles. I like using an alembic sf2 high pass filter for fingerstyle, the low end on the titan is deep deep deep and effortless. World class DI too.
