Mesa Boogie Walkabout Part 5!!!

Since the last thread closed after my post I'll add this to the new one.

I spent some more time with a WA tonight at one of the local GC's. I'm sold, I really want one. Now I just need to decide on some cabs. I've been thinking about some Berg AE's, then someone posted about using the WA with Aguilar DB 112 cabs. Which got me thinking that two DB 210's stacked vertically, might be sweet. Thoughts?

DB110's??? No such beastie. The Aguilar SL112's might be worth checking out.

I haven't played through a wide variety of 112's but really love the WA tone through 2xDB112's. They really do have a huge amount of bass and the WA EQ is great to tame em. Having 2x112 boxes is really versatile too. I have one set up at each of my 2 jam spaces - then put em together for gigs.

My only gripe is that their form factor is a bit awkward. Fairly heavy for a 112, handles are a tad uncomfortable. They are short - I have screwed feet on the left side of my cab so I can sit it upright when playing through just one.

But once it's on the floor and set up ..... :D ..... sounds like sex.

I meant to say DB210's. What I'm trying to do is put together a rig that will rival my M6/PH1000 setup, while weighing significantly less and taking up less space. I plan to use it on nights where the stage is small or I'm feeling too lazy to schlep the other stuff. I have never played a gig where I needed to crank my M6/PH1000, so I'm not too concerned about the WA not being loud enough as long as I have a sufficient number of speakers.

My thought is that two DB210's stacked vertically may be a nice setup. Should be nice and punchy, plus I would have the benefit of speakers being closer to my ears. Though, I have never heard a DB210 so I could be completely wrong and this combo may sound like doo doo.

If the DB210's are anything like the DB112's, or 212's, it should be a smokin' hot rig fer sure. The WA head pairs well with lots of cabs, in particular the DB112's.

@Blair: nice!
Walkabout+P: there's hardly anything nicer.

Thanks Alan. Once in awhile something extraordinary comes along & I had a gut feeling about this little amp when I 1st saw a "roundup" of the type in BP years ago. Would really like to try setting it atop a GB uber quad(8ohm+8ohm=4ohm) OR just the hd w/ the quad.
Still working out the setting kinks w/ the Sad'.(prefer the bass' preamp for tone shaping). With my Fender P, I like to boost the bass shelving to about 2 o'clock & then roll back the para 60hz a bit. That passive mid is SO sweet that it's hard to dial in anything wrong w/it. Thanks again for all the tips I get in this room.

Just got my WA- Plugged it into two Epi UL 15's (8 Ohm each)- and WOW! I have a EA Doubler and compared the two. the WA sounds like it has much more juice backing it up and is thick and tubey. Just like everyone says! I love the EA and there is a place for it in my palate- But plugging a Pbass with flats into the WA- it sounds great. Very Happy- The fan is loud but I may add that quieter fan down the road- I think in a club gig it wouldn't be obvious. Now I'm contemplating getting a couple of Scout 12 cabs- 8 Ohm.............

If it only worked with a Stingray, I'd be screwed;)

I know you're just joshing, but, really, the only thing the Walkabout doesn't do well is take something like a Sadowsky or MTD, and "keep it sounding all modern and junk."

Now, don't get me wrong here: I totally dig my Sadowskys thru the Walkabout *because* it knocks down some of that very aggressive treble extension they have, and sweetens it up some. But, if you want that uber-hi-fi, mile-high treble extension, this just isn't the right tool.

Fabulous for about everything else though!

How about your DB? I read a review ages ago about how well the 12" scout sat w/ a Jazz trio. That passive radiator had something to do with his impression as I recall.

The Walkabout is my DB amp, yessir.
I haven't had a Scout cab for some time: I flipped them both when I went unemployed because I like my LDs 2x8's better and they would have been more expensive to replace.
But, DB sounded great thru the Scout cab, at least for me and my uses.

Since this is a brand new thread: I have a 4 ohm WA Scout. I understand they will work just fine with a 2 ohm load, but can one just switch out the 4 ohm speaker with an 8 ohm one? I would love to have a total of 4 ohms with the WA Scout+ the WA radiator, and the quiet fan upgrade.

Anyone do all this themselves?

Sorry if this has been answered somewhere, already!

That sounded pretty noob, didn't it. Oops.

Just played a blues gig with my DB and my Jack Casady through my WA last night. Used a single EA Wizzy M-line at 4 ohms. Sounded awesome for both.
I got a chance to listen to my rig from the audience when a friend sat in on BG. The clean edge the EA seems to deliver on stage really sounds pretty darn old school from distance. Not quite as much as old Diesels, but then the Wizzy doesn't weigh 100 lbs either.
I listened to a recording of the show and the DB was really even, clear, and yet had that WA touch that makes it such a nice amp to use with the blues.

Yes, you can do this.
