Mesa D-800

So I've been trying to nail down my Mesa gear.

I started with the 800+. Loved it but wanted to try something different. I bought the WD. Didn't quite like it. Too much midrange for my taste. Still had the 800+.

So I went ahead and sold the WD and got a TT. I absolutely loved it and sold my "backup" 800+.

of course, months later I missed the simplicity of the 800+, so I purchased the base model 800 to keep as my backup.

Lately, I've needed to simplify my gear so I decided to sell my TT. Now the 800 is my only amp. And I am incredibly happy now.

However, I've noticed that my cabs(2x12 and 1x15 subways) seem to fart out with this amp. They get crackly at higher volumes. Never had that happen before. I recall always keeping the hipass filter between 50-80hz on my TT and 800+ at all times. I realize this amp does not have the hipass filter.

Does this sound like normal behavior @agedhorse ?

I have it set at 2ohms.

The D-800 has a fixed HPF set at ~30Hz.

What else is in your signal path? Any pedals?

Have you tried the amp and cabinets with a different bass?

Are you using speaker cables with genuine Neutrik SpeakOn plugs?

Does it do this with each cabinet individually?

I have a sans amp DI and keeley compressor that are always on.

Bass, lo mid, high mid and treble all at noon. Deep switch on. Voicing at about 10 o clock. Sans amp is at unity with everything at noon except the presence knob which is slightly boosted.

I have to check the speaker cables. Not sure if they are neutrik. They are daddario speakon cables. I think they are neutrik?

it's been awhile since I haven't run the two cabs together. I will try that out.

I use a Sandberg jazz bass often lately and it seems to happen more with that. The pickups are rather hot.

Otherwise there are no issues. Do you think I might just be overloading the system?

Remove the compressor and Sansamp, use just the amp to eliminate other outside causes. When did you last check the battery in your bass? Try another bass to rule that out.

The bass is passive.

tried other basses too and soloed each cab. Seems to only happen when running them together. It's not a huge sound, just a crack. In fact, it seems to only happen when I hit an A on the E string.

I play rather aggressively as well. Mesa input was at about 2 o clock and master at 10-11. I know that is loud.

does this sound like user error to you?
