Mesa D800 into rumble 25 cab?

Guys,

Stupid question of the day. I know. I have a mesa d800, an ampeg 410 cab and a rumble 25 combo (1x8 speaker, couldn't find the impedance but I would guess 16ohms?).

The 410 is big enough where I rather keep it in the practice room. So for home practice I have a couple options. Note that i practice at low volume at home, mostly enough to get to the song level I'm playing to:

1. just practice with the rumble 25 at home (free, but don't get to use my mesa amp)
2. buy a 112 cab that can get closer to amp power (prob best option, but most expensive)
3. modify the rumble to accept and external amp. I have the technical skills to do this (super cheap. I get to play with my mesa and if I blow the speaker I lost prob $80 and i have to go to option 2).

I just dropped a ton of money on my rig so want to take a break from spending more, but also want to give my expensive gear some use.

So to me it's either 1 or 3. Thoughts? Would option 3 put the mesa amp at any risk?

The Rumbles are fine sounding cabs. However, they pale in comparison to the Subways as far as build quality, power handling, engineering and construction. The best possible tone for your D-800 is with the Subway line of cabs. That Rumble 25 would be taking a horrible beating… and the beating wouldn’t last long.

Yeahhhhh, no to option 3. You're risking far more than the speaker and for zero gain. You'll shred the speaker and/or fry the amp. Other than lack of power I'm not sure what tone you're missing out of the Rumble that you'd gain by attaching the D800 to its speaker.

If the 25 isn't enough power, sell it to someone who needs a starter amp and get at least the 40. I've had one for a few years and for practice situations it is more than enough and sounds really good. There's even a great thread on here about swapping speakers to get the most out of them.

If you're really married to the Mesa tone and need to be amplified then that's when you get a smaller cab. Though, other than having something smaller it I don't see what you're gaining by that either if you already have a perfectly capable 4x10 in your practice room.

Is this to take it out of the practice room or simply an attempt to play at a lower volume?

How about a 2x8" 8ohm, or 1x10, there are plenty cheap, Warwick gnome. T C electronic, etc. . It give U closer to your stage sound Just don't turn it up. !!!
