Running at 2 ohms. An extra fan isn't going to help much either, the best way to deal with it is to be sure it has the most recent updates.

First of all, I just want to say how much I appreciate all of you weighing in on this thread, and providing your experience and knowledge in response to my queries. I'm curious as to which updates you are speaking of Mr. Horse. I purchased my M9 Carbine off of a guy in Toronto about 3 years ago for $700 Canadian! A steal of a deal to be sure! I've been running this amp at approximately 2.67 ohms for our shows powering a 210 cabinet and 410 Ampeg cabinet which they have as a house rig, with no issues, except that the amp feels fairly warm on a hot summer night ; not so bad during the colder months, of which we have plenty where I live. (It often dips below -4° farenheit here in February!) Anyhow, what are these updates?

I recently sent my Walkabout back to Mesa to get a freshening up. I don't know what components they swapped out (even though they sent me an itemized bill....I just don't remember). But they cleaned it and tested it there at the factory. Their customer service and communication was great. Turn around time was quick and the fee was more than reasonable.

I highly recommend it, especially if you bought it used.

With the 2 ohm mod, it's better but for the full Carbine impact I feel that it's a better 4 ohm amp than a 2 ohm amp.

Of course if it doesn't have the 2 ohm switch I wouldn't recommend 2 ohm operation at all.

I do not know the details of the history of the amp, other than the generalities and of course how the amp works. I came to Mesa close to the end of the production history so it would be easy for me to confuse things. You can always give customer service a call, they will consult with the guy that's in charge of the Carbine service program and get you the real info. You will need to have the serial number as there's some research to be done at our end as to the (factory service) history of your unit. We won't know of any non-factory service history though)

+1...over the years I've sent three heads back home to Mesa for a little tune-up work and their customer service is top drawer. I would not hesitate to contact them to get help, advice or arrange for service again. In fact I've got one of the earlier Walkabouts that is about due for a visit to Petaluma.

It has the 2 ohm switch. I like the idea of shipping it down to Mesa for a service/clean up. It could use a couple things, ie: the AC input is a bit loose and the master volume pot is a bit scratchy, plus it looks pretty dusty inside.....
