Okay, I’m going to be buying a new rig soon, I’m just having issues with which cab to get. So I’d appreciate a little input from you guys.

I’m looking for a vertical 2x12 4ohm cab which I’m planing on running a new fusion s 500 (or 800) GK. I’ve narrowed it down to a Mesa subway 212 and a genzler mg212t.

I’m leaning towards the Mesa but am wondering what experience you guys have with them. I mainly play heaven punk rock stuff. Thanks!

Though I have only played through the Genzler cabs, my take on other’s descriptions of the Mesa lead me to believe that it may be better for your application. The Genzler 212 sounds great, and is pretty even an smooth in response...it has a slight low mid bump with Faital Pro drivers. The Mesa is going to be more mid forward and slightly more aggressive with Eminence drivers. Heavy Punk with a pick screams Mesa too me. Definitely go for the 800watt head, as the 212s like some power before they open up. Do yourself a favor and try the WD800 if you can.....it’s glorious!

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking Mesa would better suit me. I am on the fence about the head too. I was thinking if I end up going Mesa cab then I might as well go Mesa head as well.

The old (now discontinued) Powerhouse cabs used Eminence drivers, but the new Subway stuff uses Faitals if I read all the responses right.

My subway 112 seems pretty even, to me. I could be wrong on that, but it's a pretty clean cab. It's not like the old powerhouse or diesel cabinets to my ears. That being said, I love it with my GK Legacy 800. I haven't ever tried or heard the Genzler stuff, unfortunately.

The speakers used in each are Faital and that still does not tell anyone about the sound of the cabs as they are each using their own recipe into their speakers, they are not off the shelf drivers.

Knowing what speaker are in a cab does not mean much tone wise. Even if the speakers were exactly the same the cabs are designed differently so they would still not sound the same.

Are you certain? I know the Mesa 15 is pretty well a stock 15PR400, but I was sure that Andy used a Kappalite for the 12.
